Virginia Department of Transportation S.T.A.R.S Program

This VDOT program, Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS), is a task-order based program managed by the Transportation and Mobility Division within VDOT. My specific involvement in the project included serving as the traffic safety engineer and preparing a report addressing an interchange modification project, subsequent to collecting and reviewing crash data to determine crash patterns and developing collision diagrams. In addition, I conducted in-field reviews to evaluate the high collision location and provide qualitative analyses using both digital photography as well as video to note deficiencies within the field. The crash analysis also includes a comprehensive report describing the conditions, study methodology, results, and recommendations.
Enhancing Safety and Operations at Complex Interchanges with Improved Signing, Markings, and Integrated Geometry, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)

My role on this project was to assist with participant data collection in Toxcel’s Mobile Human Factors Laboratory in Orlando, FL and Gainesville, VA. In addition, I helped recruit participants, administered the necessary participant paperwork, instructed and monitored the participants while in the driving simulator, backed up participant data, documented the data collection progress, and frequently updated the team on project status.

Bicycle Infrastructure within the Foggy Bottom Metro Area, Virginia Tech and DDOT

I was involved in a project with Virginia Tech, in conjunction with DDOT, to evaluate and recommend bicycle infrastructure within the Foggy Bottom Metro Area on the basis of existing field conditions, crash analyses and survey results. As part of the analysis, I conducted a literature review to determine previous projects that were involved with the area. A crash analysis was also conducted to determine where current bicycle issues existed and was used to help focus the locations for both a wind-shield (driving) and walking field review. In addition to these tasks, I was also involved in the development, deployment, and analysis of a bicycle survey that was provided to both bicycle riders and general public to research about the use, perception, benefits and impacts of existing and potential bicycle infrastructure within the Foggy Bottom Metro Area.
